Yet another whey protein product... fun times...

First off, let me say my personal favorite, and the meter stick by which I judge all other whey proteins, is Nature's Best ZeroCarb Isopure. Glutamine and BCAAs in the mix, no carbs (at all), and 50g of protein from straight-up un-tinkered-with ion-exchange whey protein in each 2-scoop shake. And of course being fortified with vitamins and minerals is better than a kick in the head as well.

Here's why I will not try yours.

1. The Amino Acid complex listed is incorrect. BCAAs should be taken as L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, and L-Valine, in a 3:1:1 ratio. This product contains L-Cysteine, L-Methionine and L-Arginine. L-Cysteine is marginally beneficial for its antioxidant properties, but that's about it. A good multivitamin will do a better job of it than supplementing orally with this amino, and excess Cysteine can cause gall stones. L-Arginine is highly useful, but because of the way it digests, it either should not be stacked with anything else - at all - or should be taken as its more stable and more bioavailable precursor, AAKG. L-Methionine should NOT be supplemented, ever, period. This is an essential amino acid, and must be obtained through your diet - which is generally easy, since all your meats and cheeses are rich sources of it. Unless your doctor has advised you that you have a deficiency, you should not supplement with this one.

2. 4g of net carbs is 4g too many. Nature's Best can make whey zero carb, why other manufacturers insist on unnecessarily raising the glycemic index of their products and adding carbs no one needs or wants is beyond me.

3. It's not real Why Isolate. It's a mix of Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Permeate, and Micellar Casein. At 90-94% protein, Isolate is the god high king of protein supplements. It costs more since it's more costly to make, but it's simply the best choice. Concentrate and Permeate clock in closer to 75%, and aren't as bioavailable, and there's absolutely no reason to prefer them unless you're a complete cheapskate (and even then, places like Vitamin Shoppe and Amazon.com can generally get you Whey Isolate for a pretty damn similar price). Micellar Casein is freaking awesome - but for reasons tha generally mean you shouldn't be mixing it in your whey. Casein forms a clot in the stomach, and digests slowly over time. Think of it like time-release protein. Whey, on the other hand, digests VERY rapidly. You want that super-fast digestion and absorption at certain times - like right after your workout. At other times, you want the slower action - like when you can't eat at the right intervals, or right before bed. You will very rarely have any real reason to take both together, and by combining them in the mix, your manufacturer just assumes you're too dumb to educate yourself and make the right decision about what to supplement when.

So there's your review... albeit not a good one!
