Protein before a workout?

Postby JohnnyDub on Sun Dec 06, 2009 5:33 am

Hey there.

I've been on the THT workout program for about 5 weeks now aswell as the MANS diet, and so far I've seen great gains and most noteably, 3/4s of an inch on both arms. Although I feel like I could be getting better gains. Anyways I was reading an article http://www.maxim.co.uk/fitness/asktheex ... otein.html and it says you should have a bit of protein approx. 20 minutes before you workout.
Do any of you do that?
If you guys do it, and have had good results with it, I might start having a glass of milk before my workouts. Although milk is 12gs of carbs.

Thanks

I would not say 20min but anywhere 20-45min before a workout.Indeed consuming larger amount of protein before workout my workout has given me somewhat better results.I believe protein before workout is more important than after, since after workout you already have amino acids running in your blood from the before workout protein intake(if your workout lasts a normal 30-60min). That does not mean I do not consume protein after. In fact I consume enough protein before, after and sometimes in my workouts in the form of a shake or a protein bar. Getting enough of it all over the day is as important. I don't also think that the body has equal need of protein every hour of the day, because some people divide their protein equally into the day.In the morning and peri-workout you can consume larger quantity of protein because the body needs it,and it will absorb it, so I take that advantage too.

I think it's good to have some fast-absorbing protein after you train. Otherwise I don't think it makes much difference.
