Suggestions On Pre-Post Workout Supps?

Postby sskbpatriot on Thu Jan 15, 2009 5:30 pm

Man! I was about as far off as I could get from the M.A.N.S Diet. My pre-workout creatine I was using had 30g of carbs, my Size- on for intra-post workout was another 30g., and I was sold on the Muscletech Anator P-70 which has 57g. for post workout. Guess I will save that stuff for the weekends. I am starting the cycle on Monday the 19th. Can't Wait!

Have fun! Sounds like you have the good carbs for the weekend. Either way, for now, I would advice you to eat good quality carbs on the weekend and watch your fat/carb mixture (like burgers, fries etc.) Too much cola, fast food, fries, pizza, etc might add more than you will work off each week. Of course, I'm not sure what body type/metabolism you have, but eating bad on my carb-ups got me fatter. Just take is easy on the weekends until you find the balance and enjoy!

Best of luck!

Seconded. As usual, Andrew is full of good advice. Keep your carb-ups clean and short if you can.

I won't be reintroducing carb-ups until I hit 200 pounds as my next target (19 pounds away!). I'll be around 13-14% body fat at that point. I'll have to evaluate my muscular development at that point... I don't want to hit the beach with a rocking six-pack and teeny, tiny biceps!

I would also agree with the above, I'm fairly new to the program and my carb ups so far haven't been all that clean, I have been eating about 400-600 carbs on my carb ups and thats in a 24-36 hour period. I was eating loads of oats which a good but I mixed that with sugary refined cereals, white bread and some choclats. When I start on my carb up I think oh it's carb up day lets go mad but I noticed I put on too much fat and that's not what you want especially if you've already got fat to lose. From now on which will be saturday my carb ups will last from 8am saturday morning until midnight, so around 16 hours. I will also keep them clean, rolled oats and fruits and vegatables with some lean protein and a some fat.

Good luck

Thanks to all for the for the great input. I am hoping to stay away from the sugar, but do understand it is in alot of everyday things, such as cereals, milk, and my beloved energy drinks. Would it be wise for me to stay off the caffeine while on creatine? I have heard conflicting stories on this. Creatine retains water while caffeine tries to get rid of it. Is this true? Thanks again for the help.

Mark got his body while having quite a bit of daily coffee :)

Caffeine intake seems to have little bearing on my ability to lose fat or gain muscle. There are legitimate health and well-being reasons to eliminate caffeine. If you want it, have it, if you don't, don't.

Focus on the core stuff, man, not on this esoteric information. Get to the gym daily, lift heavy and with intensity according to the program, eat six protein-filled low-carb meals a day, keep up on your supplements, and evaluate your progress every month. You don't need a perfect diet to get the body you want. Follow the program as outlined in Total Anabolism and refine it as you go. Never delay hitting the gym and diet hard because you don't have the answers yet.

Both your body and mind take time to develop. Getting on a cyclical ketogenic diet, eating six protein-filled meals a day, and hitting the gym daily are the 90%. Every other little bit of information is the 10% that you shouldn't worry about until you've nailed that 90%.

Double that, I agree with Matt's comment that there is nothing wrong with keeping it simple, eat right, REST (8 hours or more is best), work out hard and let time do it's thing. Creatine is not a requirement to get big. Many body builders I know don't use any supplements and they do fine!
