bedtime meal

Postby mykim0 on Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:36 pm

bodybuilders usually have a casein shake or cottage cheese before bed. This is so that the slow protein reduces catabolism. What do you all eat before bed? I usually just have some whey with flaxseed oil but i want to hear about your ideas. Flaxseed and whey tastes awful and im sick of it. Casein is more expensive than whey and cottage cheese tends to be higher in carb.

I use to use Udos Choice Ultimate Oil Blend in my protein shake which had a nutty flavour but can be on the exspensive side, I prefer Extra Virgin Olive Oil. You could have a hand full of almonds which carb level is quiet low, my fav is cottage cheese with a sliced apple.

Just a whey shake.

As always, my caveat is I'm still a fatty and barely look like I work out :)

I'm not a happy girl unless I have a frosted pumpkin flax muffin as the very last thing before I brush my teeth and go to bed.

3 T. flax meal
1 egg white
1/8 tsp. each cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves
1/2 cup canned pumpkin (not pie filling!)
1 T. Smart Balance Light Spread w/ Omegas
few drops Sweetzfree liquid sucralose

Stir it all up in one of those 2 cup Gladware containers and nuke it for 5 minutes. While it's nuking, I stir together 1 T. soynut butter, 1 T. da Vinci/Torani flavored syrup (German chocolate, Almond Roca, French vanilla & caramel are good), and 2 T. Walden Farms peanut spread. Carefully take the muffin out of its bowl and split it into two thinner circles, toast it carefully, and spread the soynut frosting on both. YUM!

275 calories, 17 grams of fat, 15 grams of protein, 6 grams net carb. Protein is easily increased by adding more egg white, almond (or other nut) meal or soy protein, or swapping the light spread for some kind of nut butter. Macadamia butter would be to die for!

Dunno... It's been almost 15 years since I lived in Rhode Island/Connecticut, and I sure never looked for anything sugar free when I lived there! Our local grocery store in Texas, H-E-B, carries vanilla, raspberry and hazelnut sugar-free in the coffee aisle. I get my biggest variety from World Market (may be called Cost Plus in your neck of the woods). We also have a low carb store locally, where I can get a few other flavors too. You might have one too; check online.

Yogurt (sometimes with whey) and 2-3 slices whole grain bread ,1-2 hours before bed.I have recenlty added carbs to pre-bed meal since I was only eating protein (with some fat occasionally-olive oil or fish oils), but I had terrible headaches. I know carbs before bed, insulin spikes and blah blah but I have lost 4kg since then (1.5 months). And I cheat regularly this period (3-4 times a week mostly chocolate and ice cream,in which I can't resist :D )
