Bulk Up, MANS or GLAD?

Postby beow2k5 on Thu Dec 17, 2009 5:48 am

hi, I have been on MANS/TSPA for a long time now and my muscle mass has been increasing steadily. However, I was wondering if I can gain muscle faster by switching to GLAD? Eating low carb is almost a natural thing for me now(must have been a year since I started the diet), so I am a little afraid to suddenly switch to GLAD which involves eating quite a bit of carb that has low GI level, not to mention that it will put me out of fat burning mode. But if I can gain mass significantly faster, I am sure I could make the change! My current stats are:

I started out at about:
175lb
19% body fat

now:
180-182lb (fluctuates a bit since I am a heavy water drinker and I don't always weight myself at same time)
approximately 9-10% body fat
Daily intake of calorie: 3000-3200, 30-40g of carb + required protein, and rest from good fats/creame (and yes, people think I am crazy to drink whipping cream@@)

Workout Plan:
Day1: Chest + Tricep
Day2: Biceps + Upper Abs
Day3: Legs
Day4: Shoulder + Lower Abs
Day5: Biceps + Back
Day6: Full Ab Workout
Day7: Cardio or take it easy
(A little hardcore to do it everyday, but I seem to really enjoy the workout atmosphere, so if I can make it 7 days a week, I do)

Would appreciate some advices from people that have experimented both diets, my goal is to gain mass faster, I don't mind to do mini-cuts if GLAD involves gaining a bit of fat here and there.

I think it's been over a year now. I have been low carbing pretty much the whole time.

bump

im interested in that too..its a dilemma ive been asking myself for a long time, now im almost finished with my TSPA..and i would want to bulk as much as i can, but without that ugly belly fat, dont want it back  ..im sure GLAD would bring my weight up, but i dont know if fat would too...and about MANS, i know its harder for the calories, i love lowcarbing..but im not sure if it would do the trick for bringing my weight up in a matter of muscle mass

GLAD will definitely help you bulk faster, and you will not put on fat so long as you keep your daily GL down. Where your carbs come from will make all the difference in the world here.

Also you cannot drink cups of cream and pound down fat like that anymore so you will have to consider making that adjustment, however I think the added variety that GLAD allows more than makes up for it.

hey Surfer...it seems that you have tried both diets..what can you tell us about advantages/disadvantages?..im in the same dilemma..dont know if bulk in MANS or GLAD..im in the same position, been lowcarbing long time, and love it all the way..MANS, now TSPA..but i love it because the its easy to follow and its great for fat burning effects..but dont know if it could work for bulking..so, i was seriously thinking about bulking with GLAD, but im afraid of getting fat because of the carbs and dont know if it bring solid results over MANS, i mean, if it worths it..(more muscle, less time)..hope you can help dude

If you want to gain weight, you need carbs, end of story !

Excess protein will lead to fat. So will excess carbs, but the carbs will give you stored energy easier to release if you're low-carbing

Carbs are no needed to gain weight. But its a lot easier for many factors..(fat gain, water retention, etc)..i prefer lowcarb..but yes, ive never succeded in a lowcarb to gain big amounts of muscle..too sad...so thats why i wanted to try GLAD..slabbie, i didnt get your point..so which do u prefer?

I prefer low carb, simply because I put on fat too easily. I don't do much cardio yet, but suppose when I start I'll be taking more carbs

Whether MANS or GLAD is better for bulking, my personal opinion is that GLAD is better because I can simply lift heavier and have a bit more stamina in the gym when I'm not low carbing, so workouts can be a bit more intense.

I don't do any cardio and GLAD was fine for keeping the fat off. I went from 12%-8% bodyfat while on GLAD and have stayed there over a year. I don't think you have to worry about fat so long as your daily glycemic load is under control. MANS will probably better for cutting fat faster however, it took me a good 6 months or so to drop that 4% on GLAD but again that's a tough 4% to drop and I was not doing any cardio or focusing on fat loss at the gym.

My choice to do GLAD wasn't for more bulking potential but it was just because it allowed more variety of food and was something I could adopt more permanently to my lifestyle. MANS was too restrictive for me to stick with for any extended period of time and I figured that if I got certain results with it that I would probably lose them when I stopped and went back to what I was doing.
