Chicken Question

Postby melville49 on Mon Jun 01, 2009 2:16 am

I have a bag of Tyson Chicken Thighs w/ skin.
Fat: 27g Protein 14g

If the skin is removed, how much fat and protein remains?

Also wondering about chicken and skin in general - like if you go to KFC and remove the skin.

Weigh it and use the data from here as a guide: http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate ... n-removed/

You could use this for the cooked ones from KFC: http://www.livestrong.com/thedailyplate ... n-removed/

Hope it helps!

I happen to have a bag of Tyson skinless/boneless thighs in my freezer and it lists a 4oz serving as having 18g protein and 7g fat. I don't know if that is what a thigh weighs exactly, and you can't compare weights with boneless and bone-in chicken but it at least gives you an idea of the protein/fat ratio in the meat of a skinless thigh.

When talking about fast food or restaurant chicken, you have to also add in some carbs/sugar because of the typical flavoring mixture the chicken will be cooked in will have some sugar in it. It won't be much (especially if its grilled), but if you are trying to seriously low carb, every gram counts.
