GL Calculating

Postby judd on Mon Feb 15, 2010 1:07 am

Ok quick question about a foods GL. If you know the GL for a specific food but will have a serving high or lower then 100 grams( which seems to be the standard for calculation) what do you you do.Is it safe to multiply the GL by the serving increase or decrease percentage and call that good. For example 100 grams of broccoli has a GL of 3, so if I consume say 150 grams should I take the GL time 1.5 and say it is I have had 4.5 GL's now.
Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Yes you can multiply the GL by the serving proportion to get the actual GL if you are eating more or less than the standard serving size. However the standard serving size for GL is not equal for every food like with GI so you do have to pay attention to what size serving the GL is based on for each food, it is not 100g across the board.

Thanks SurferX. I said 100g just because I had abtained a reference book that had them various food item listed in 100g servings. I also found an online site that lists foods GL and the common demoninator for all listings was 100g. So for the sake of convenience I prepared a excel file with them as such. But as long as I know its as easy as mutliplying by the difference, in percent, alls well. I appreciate the response..cheers
