GLAD: Count post-workout shake as a meal

Postby Frogmarch1987 on Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:23 pm

If you follow Mark's recommendations, then your PWO shake should contain no carbs.

Considering the rules of GLAD dictate that you should always combine carbs with protein, do we count our shake as 1 of our 6 meals, even though there is no carbs, or do we just take account of the protein amount and calorie count in our total values for the day and adjust our 6 meals to have slightly less protein to take account of this shake?

Thanks

I do GLAD and here's how I figure it. My post-workout shake is a not a full meal so I don't include carbs at that time. Within an hour of the shake I'm eating a regular meal, perhaps with just a little less protein due to the recent shake, but I have protein, fat, and carbs then. The whey is utilized so quickly that there is something of an insulin response even in the absence of carbs so they're not necessary to be added in. I, of course, do count the calories of the shake.
