GLADiators I need some advice

Postby WHO AM I on Sun May 10, 2009 10:12 am

So I was wondering if anyone on a non low carb diet could give me a sample of there diet? I wanted to know how you fit your carbs in, so do you take them in only around your workouts and what if your workouts are in the evening do you restrict them in the morning and have them only in the evening or vice versa?
Also do you avoid mixing fats and carbs as much as possible or will that not matter too much?

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

A basic plan of my diet:

Break:
Yogurt(2%) with Whey /or/ 5-6 Eggs(only 1 whole ,the rest only the white)
2 Slices whole grain bread/3-4 turkey slices
1 Banana

Meal 1:
Source of protein(mostly some type of lean meat or fish)
Source of carbs(low/mod GI mostly)
Vegetables
Olive Oil as Fat Source
(I have 7-8 different meals I alternate in the week)

Meal 2:
Handful of Nuts
1 Apple

Meal 3:
Source of protein(mostly some type of lean meat or fish)
Source of carbs(low/mod GI mostly)
Vegetables/Some type of legume(1-2 times a week)
Olive Oil as Fat Source
------
Preworkout:
Whey
1 cup of Milk(1.5%)
1-2 small/medium bananas

Postworkout: Most of the times Meal 3 is my post workout meal but occasionally I have an extra postworkout shake or a protein bar from my gym's machine.

Prebed:
Yogurt with whey or 5-6egg whites(1 whole)
2 slices of whole grain bread

Free Choices:Once a week instead of a meal
1)Some type of spagghetti with many cheeses
2)4 (small)slices of pizza
3)2 chicken burgers
4)2-3 souvlaki (topical food)

Thanks undertaker610, do your non workout days look very similar? I'm looking to change over to GLAD from MANS as I have'nt had the success some have had so I need to try something else. Have you ever been on low carb and if so which has been better for you?

I was thinking of maybe only having carbs pre and post workout and eat high fat like MANS the rest of the time but I should probably stick to GLAD or MANS, not mix them up, if anyone has tried this approach please let me know how it worked out for you.

Yes, take out the pre and post workout which are those who add the extra calories I need during my workout days.

I am trying eating from all food categories during the day whether it's workout day or not.

I think you can have some type of carbs at least preworkout to give you an energy boost during your workout, on MANS. Correct me MANS doers If I am wrong...

There is no real rule with the carbs but Mark does mention somewhere that he sometimes saves carbs for pre workout, but I've found that not to be to effective for me.

When people take caffeine prior to a workout what form do you take it in, regular coffee granuals or in tablet form? Plus how long do you have it prior to working out, just so I know when it kicks in?

Thanks

Personally I am so sensitive to caffeine that after 5 minutes I am in turbo mode :D .My peak is after 30-45minutes and it lasts for about an hour and a half. The effect of caffeine fades out for me after 4-5 hours.

So personally I take it 30-45 minutes prior. I don't think there is a general rule you should find it yourself when it's your peak.

Okay thanks, I'll try taking it 45 mins to an hour before a workout to see if it helps. The last time I tried caffeine it actually made me tired so maybe it will have a negative effect but I'll give it a go if I neeed a lift.

Thanks again

My typical day:

Breakfast:
My own shake mix consisting of...
~1.5 cups mixed frozen berries (black, blue, raz)
2 eggs
1 scoop whey protein (26g)
1 scoop Met-Rx Super Green Powder
~4oz brick of tofu
~10oz water

Snack 1:
Fruit, typically an apple but sometimes other things depending what I bought that week.

Snack 2:
Low sugar yogurt with mixed nuts (planters nut-rition south beach and energy mixes are my preference)

Lunch:
Wrap (using la tortilla factory smart & delicious lower carb tortillas) filled with some sort of meat (chicken, turkey, roast beef, or tuna), cheese, and salami

Snack 3:
Usually some other fruit, maybe string cheese or sometimes a protein bar if I found a decent kind on sale that week. If i'm home at this time then I might eat a few eggs, a can of tuna, and/or peanut butter. This one is kind of all over the place because sometimes I'm at work and sometimes I'm not at this time.

Dinner:
Whatever meat I feel like cooking up, could be a steak, chicken, turkey, fish, etc., lots of it.

Post work-out:
1 scoop whey protein w/ 5g glutamine

Before bed:
Cottage cheese, regular

I used to pay very close attention to serving sizes when I counted out the calories, proteins, and carbs of everything but now since I know what it is and how much I typically eat I don't really need to waste time doing that anymore so forgive me for not being very specific on serving sizes because I don't really know what they are anymore. I mostly just listen to my body and eat so that it sets me up to not be hungry before the next time I can eat.
