How am I doing?

Postby jf16 on Thu May 19, 2011 6:42 pm

Ok so this is basically my diet on any average day.
Morning (5:30-6:00 A.M.)- 3 Eggs, 1/3 cup cheddar cheese 1/4 cup Mozzarella cheese
Protein Shake post workout (7:00 A.M.)
Snack (9:30 A.M.) Pork Rinds, OR peanuts maybe 2 servings of pork rinds and 1 of peanuts
Lunch (11:30-12:30) Whatever meat my lunch room has that day, and also the vegetables and sometimes beans of some sort.
2nd Snack (3:00-3:30 P.M.) 2 (smaller) hamburger patties with mustard
Dinner (6:00-7:00 P.M.) I generally make something with chicken i.e. chicken cordon blue which is fantastic btw "breaded" with Parmesan cheese I don't use bread crumbs with anything, but if I'm at work its grilled Tilapia for me.
Late night?(9:00-10:00 P.M.) Sunflower seeds or something with peanuts butter and a few pretzel sticks.

I'm eating as low carb as my day allows, always shooting for around 30g of carbs and the rest fat and protein.
Just wondering what you guys think about this as a basic daily menu. I'm 16 and 150lbs. Not sure what body fat % but if I took a stab in the dark I would say around 11to14%(I can just barley see my abs, if thats any indication)
I have also made FANTASTIC gains with marks THT and just started my 2nd Volume cycle. Thanks in advance for comments :D

Careful with them beans... some of them are sky-high on net carbs.

Also awesome - take some slivered almonds, put them in a food processor and grind them to a fine pulp. Use equal parts ground almonds and parmesan cheese, and sprinkle in whatever seasonings you like. It's a few more grams of carbs, but a little more protein too and gives that crispy crunchy coating like "real" fried foods without having to use breading. :)

"a few" is probably no biggie, and at your age you can probably get away with some sloppiness on your diet, but bed time carbs are generally unhelpful...

If you can "just barely" see your abs, you're probably in the 10-11% ballpark. Good job. :)

Napkin math would indicate your diet is pretty solid. I can't figure out exact amounts obviously, but the balance looks right - the beans give me the heebie jeebies, because I know what some folks put in baked beans (and sometimes they might as well be candied by the time they hit the plate) but as long as you're conscious of it you probably already know better than to eat them when they're half molasses.

Out of curiosity... are you in a position to supplement at all? And if so what are you using?

THT IS FREEKING AWESOME. Like the whole program is just made out of epic win. If you're doing Volume cycles you must be doing 3.0... personally I hated the HIT cycles on that, though some folks here swear by that 3-day split... idk, what do you think? 3 days or 5? Oh, and if you missed it, according to Mark the new version will be out by the end of the month! Can't wait to see what that looks like.

Beans I do allow more than any other garb in my diet because they full of protein, are delicious, and have a lot of good nutrients. Also I read somewhere that the carbs in beans act more like fiber than carve in just like bread or sugar. But yeah I do watch what is actually in my food. And i'll have to give that almond thing a try :D
And on supplements: I guess you would count protein shakes? But I use the low darn dutch chocolate whey isolate but I can't remember where its from but its about $1.50 per shake which I think js pretty good. Someone once told me I was "making expensive piss" I just wonder about how many shakes he had bought from mcdonalds. Other people are spending way more money for sugary crap. So they are basically making expensive fat?
I also just started back taking creatine after about 2-3 weeks off of it...but I guess i'm just one of the few people who don't take well to it because I haven't ever noticed much of a difference when on or off it. I do eat a lot of meat and always have so maybe I just had naturally high levels already. But I also take l-glutamine at night and caffeine pre-work out. I just bought a bottle of L-carnatine and it does help especially coupled with caffeine. Just as a side note...ephedra hcl gets your heart going if

Yep. Kinda figured you weren't being retarded. Nice to know I was right on that. ;)

That's very good, actually. Slightly less than I pay for mine. :)

Best line ever

No sir you are not making more expensive piss. The water exits as urine - the protein is absorbed and used. Especially immediately after training, you want rapidly absorbing protein, like a whey shake. Just mind that you get good quality supplements...

jf16 wrote:Other people are spending way more money for sugary crap. So they are basically making expensive fat?

Yes, yes they are. Like all those guys buying the damn BSN and Gaspari "mass gainers". Yeah you'll gain mass alright...

If you aren't already doing so, dissolve it in warm water, then use ice or stone cold water to bring it down to a drinkable temp. I noticed a HUGE difference when I stopped mixing it cold.

jf16 wrote:I do eat a lot of meat and always have so maybe I just had naturally high levels already.

Possible. And some people truly are non-responsive to supplemental creatine.

Almost surprised on the carnitine. I've found a lot of conflicting research about whether or not it's actually any good - and frankly a lot of the marketing hype was pushing me to think maybe not. Maybe it's time for me to dig back through PubMed... and on the ephedra? Yeah buddy at your age I'm sure it makes your heart race something fierce. Be careful with that one.

On the gluatamine... consider adding BCAAs and casein at night, too. Give your body something to feed on other than your muscles while it rebuilds, y'know? Doesn't matter if you do supplemental or dietary casein (i.e. cottage cheese) - protein is protein. :)
