I think MANS is giving me low sugar levels

Postby lburnham on Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:37 pm

I have been on MANS for some months now but I'm concerned the diet is not too healthy.
Often when I stand up or move positions, I become out of breath and my vision is blurry like when you have a migraine.
I think these may be symptoms of low blood sugar levels. But I also think it may be because I'm not too cardiovascularly healthy.

What do you guys think? Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers - L.B.

Dizziness while standing up from sitting or lying down is a very common symptom of reduced blood pressure in the brain, and is prevalent in athletes. Blame your weight training for reducing your blood pressure, not your diet or blood sugar unless you have a blood-sugar monitor to confirm your self-diagnosis:

I was thinking orthostatic hypotension too, which of course is just a fancy way to say dizzy when you stand up. My doctor gave me the same explanation, that very well conditioned people can experience this. I have a heart rate monitor which tests my fitness level and the past three months at least it has put me in the "elite" category, so I'm betting this is the explanation, rather than being poorly-conditioned. ;) It also explains why my heart rate shoots up so much upon standing/walking/climbing stairs. Body detects low blood pressure state and compensates by elevating pulse. Ain't anatomy cool?! :ugeek:

It's encouraging to know that my symptoms were actually indicators of good health! It seems, though, that even good health has its drawbacks lol

Yeah. When I was fatter, I rarely got dizzy upon standing. Now that my resting heart rate is down close to 60bpm, my blood pressure is way down from its former stratospheric heights, and I'm much better conditioned, I get dizzy standing up all the time.

Stand up slower. It's good advice. Or take a few moments to flex your legs before you stand; that helps me, too.

I have notice my eye sight goes to crap and me arm shakes after a hard exercise can barley focus on my log sheet to jot down the reps. I guess that’s normal well I hope it is

That used happened to me when I was just starting out and still happens when I have taken time off from working out. I think this is normal, probably just our bodies adapting to the high intensity of exercise.
