is red meat a must?

Postby mykim0 on Fri Apr 10, 2009 12:24 am

is red meat the only way MANS diet works effectively? Is it possible to eat chicken and get extra fat from dairy products? Or is red meat the only way? I just want to see if i can be more flexible with this diet.

Dairy has too many carbs. I mean you can supplement cheese but why? Red meat cheaper and much more effective.

Sirloin tips? You can't be serious. Buy the cheapest, fattiest red meat. Hell, the butcher would probably give it to you for free.

I really don't think any specific food is a "must". But it's a fact that cholesterol raises testosterone, and red meat gives us the most cholesterol of the available meats. As a low-carber, you can generally safely ignore cholesterol, as the effect of dietary cholesterol on serum blood cholesterol is entirely overwhelmed by the beneficial effect of eating low-carb on your lipid profile.

That said, soybeans (edamame) are a really good low-carb source of protein, and you could do cheese, mayonnaise, egg yolks, MCT oil, olive oil, lard, or other sources for your fats.

Why don't you want red meat?

Mmm, got me thinking about food.

Gonna go cook some steak!

chucks are not too bad. They are $5.99 per pound here. I completely forgot about the cholesterol factor in beef. I guess there is no substitute for it. I love beef its just that i wanted to keep grocery costs down.

Hahaha, yeah but I would go for less fatty cuts, I dont really like the taste of the fats on cuts of meat, I'll always take it off bacon, chicken and so on.

You could always go for minced red meat, it's cheaper and you can cook up some of Marks big whopper burgers.

Right there with you; don't like the fat on meat-- however, even during my decade-long stint as a vegetarian, I could still be found to occasionally scarf down a greasy cheeseburger! Well done, of course, to disguise the taste/texture of the fatty parts...

Although this past weekend I experienced goat ribs karahi for the first time and I think I'm in love! ;)
