Low Carb Pizza! As real as it gets!

Postby bman333 on Sat Jun 18, 2011 3:21 am

Hey fellow 'hackers,

Love pizza? ME TOO! It is something I just cannot give up. In my endless search for a low carb pizza I have found (quite possibly) the holy grail :P

There is the great stuff called "Carbquick". It is basically an all purpose flour (like Bisquick) but has 90% less carbs! Yeah, you heard it, 90%! Just Google it, there are a few online retailers. It can be used for pancakes, biscuits...all those things we normally can't have. Sometimes you gotta tweak the recipes a bit to get it just right but its worth it. http://www.netrition.com/tova_carbquik_page.html

They have a basic pizza dough recipe (on the box) that is super quick to make, it creates a small 12 inch or so pie (only 6 net carbs for the 1 cup of mix used) , add some low carb pizza sauce **Edit: I used the tomato basil one, as Vega pointed out below the meat one seems to have a bunch of junk in it** http://www6.netrition.com/bella_vita_pa ... _page.html (4g net carb) and some toppings of your choice..... and your only looking @ 15-20 carbs w/ plenty of protein and fat. This stuff has been a lifesaver!

ps. I love cutting these into "pepperoni's" and putting them on top... http://www.tofurky.com/tofurkyproducts/sausages.html . @ 30 grams of protein per "sausage" whats not to love?

Who says we can't get our grub on and get ripped?! CHEERS!

For sure Liam, glad to share!

FYI, For the pancakes..their recipe calls for a ridiculous amount of butter. I've found that 1-2 tbsp seems to suffice and then I like to throw in some blueberries. MmmmmMMMmm

Look at the ingredients for that sauce! What a bunch of garbage.

I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole mate.

Ingredients: Tomato puree (water, tomato paste), diced tomatoes, soybean oil, salt, dehydrated onions, textured vegetable protein [(soy flour, caramel color), partially hydrogenated soybean oil, water salt, hydrolyzed corn gluten protein, autolyzed yeast], dehydrated garlic, extra virgin olive oil, citric acid, parsley, basil, oregano, spices, natural flavor.

Also, Chebe Bread Mix makes a nice pizza dough. It's basically just starchy carbs, but without all that crap in the ingedients.

Hi Vega,

Good point and my mistake! I meant to post a link to the tomato basil one, not the meat one... it has;

Ingredients: Tomato puree (water, tomato paste), diced tomatoes, soybean oil, salt, dehydrated onions, dehydrated garlic, extra virgin olive oil, citric acid, parsley, basil, oregano, spices, natural flavor.

and I will have to checkout that dough you mentioned, thx!

well, that's better at least since it dropped the partially hydrogenated oil and corn glutens, but I also avoid soybean oil like the plague. that stuff is not meant for human consumption.

besides all that, you can easily make your own pizza sauce. in fact, i am doing that tonight for dinner! we are going to use that Chebe pizza dough mix and make our own sauce with tomato paste, extra virgin olive oil, macadamia nut oil, basil, oregano, sea salt, minced garlic, crushed black peppercorns.

Most people don't realize that it's often the nasty ingredients that man has foolishly infused foods with that cause all kinds of problems.

I stick with pure ingredients from whole healthy foods, eat plenty of natural saturated fats, avoid grains, and avoid omega6 laden vegetable oils and excess sugar/fructose.

Just throwing my 2 cents in, hope no one minds. I find that it isn't the pizza itself that I miss but the toppings, so when I get a craving for pizza I smack together some tomato puree with a few mushrooms, diced green peppers, chopped onion, garlic, etc etc, whatever your preference, careful to count my carbs (I do atkins) mix it together, smack some low fat shredded cheese on top, spill it onto a flat cookie sheet and put it under the broiler in the oven to brown'in the cheese and then I eat it... it kills my craving everytime without worry about trying to find a crust substitute as I find I really don't need it or a substitute for it...

Good stuff.
Gotta buy some.
Or just skip the dough.

I make cauliflower pizza (crust) every week. My recipe is similar to the one on lowcarbfriends.
