Mama Lupe's Tortillas

Postby krs on Fri May 01, 2009 6:59 pm

Question on this subject is where was this product pakaging made from? I say this as it states (per tortilla) 7g carb - 3g net but if the packing was produced from the UK the carb count would be 7 not 3 so it's not as low as I thought?

Key Krs,

I'm not sure if I understand but the net carb is the total carbohydrate minus the fiber. So, if it's 7 carbs with 4 grams of fiber, the net carbs are 3 grams.

Except that in Europe carbohydrate is measured directly, just like fat and protein as we do here in the states. So, the number of grams of carbohydrate listed on the package IS the net carb count. Fiber is listed for informational purposes, not so you can subtract it off.

I'm pretty sure in the UK you're getting imported packs from the US, so it's labeled in the US style. Everything I can find suggests these have 3 net carbs.

Enjoy! :D

Appreciate the reply guys and girls and I here you both , but what got me thinking was if I was buying the product and packaging was produced from overseas like the states the package will note gross carbs but you will have to subtract the fibre to get the net carbs. If the product was made and packaging produced in the UK why would it bother saying net carbs when all packaging in UK only read carbs and not subtract fibre to reach net.

The only think I'm thinking was that packaging was referring to the US?

If I'm not mistaken, Mark eats Mama Lupe and I'm pretty darn sure that he said they were 3 carbs.

Go to 1 minute 15 seconds and listen to him talk about them:

I'm certain they're just the distributor for the product, which has been imported from the US.

We have the opposite problem here in the states. We'll import some rye crispbread or something from Norway, for example, and then you get these n00b yo-yos crowing because they have found crackers with 0 (or god help me, NEGATIVE! as if that were possible) carbs. Sorry, friend, but you didn't. You just found crackers with as many fiber carbs as non-fiber carbs, or possibly with more fiber carbs than non-fiber carbs.

Anyway, the tortillas are definitely 3 net carbs. I have a different brand that I buy here in Austin, but they're also 3 net carbs, so I feel pretty confident about that answer.
