Need Help Please

Postby stickupkid on Sun Jun 14, 2009 3:15 pm

I need some help with the MANS diet please. I weight 79kg and would like to try the MANS diet I have worked out my calories but having trouble with the carb loading period. Can someone tell me how to work out the right formula for carb up day please.

Low Carb Days:
So I have work out calories you need to bulk up.
Protein intake lean body mass in kilograms multiply by 2.75.
Carbs 30 to 60 grams a day.
Fat’s to make up the rest of your calories.

Carb Loading Days:
Protein intake lean body mass in kilograms multiply by 2.75
How do you calculate the carbs for high carb loading?
Fat’s to make up the rest of your calories.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks Billy

It's a good question. The anabolic diet actually recommends high carb, lower protein and moderate fat where as MANS goes for high protein, high carb and lower fat. I don't eat as much protein on a carb-up day as I would on a low carb day. I would look at 60% of your calories from carbs, 20% from fats and 20% from protein, but that's my approach.

Thanks for advice I take it you are following the MANS diet yourself. I have another question you say 20% protein on carb loading days which is low protein intake. Now if I was on the MANS diet on 3575 calories my protein intake on low carb days on MANS works out lean body mass x 2.75 = 189g of protein. On the high carb period 3575 x 20% = 715 / 4 = 178g of protein on high carb days which is only 11 grams under my low carb days that doesn’t seem low even thou 20% protein is low?

I'm on the Anabolic Diet, which is in many ways what MANS is based on. Someone was posting the anabolic diet book http://www.australia-bodybuilding.com/F ... 20Diet.pdf which might be available for you to read over.

According to the Anabolic Diet book you do:
Weekdays: 55–60% FAT, 30–35% PROTEIN, 5–8% CARBOHYDRATES
Weekend Carb Loading: 30–40% FAT, 10–15% PROTEIN, 45–60% CARBOHYDRATES

I believe the reason the protein is low is because the purpose of the calories on carb-ups is supposed to be carb-related. The protein will just add more calories and interfere with the essential goal of the carb-up. The book states that you will not encounter any muscle loss by less protein than usual. MANS is more different in regards to the carb-up day. It probably recommends something like 45-60% Carbs, 10-15% fat, 30-40% protein. I'm sure mark has his reasoning on low fat for the weekends.

I don't track my food on carb-ups. I eat anything I want but I try to eat clean most meals. I usually eat one free meal, where I drink a beer or two and perhaps have a few pieces of pizza. Or, I might have a huge piece of lasagna or bowl of pasta. I don't take any protein supplements (except for a nice protein shake and banana blended with whey) and I limit my meat intake to normal individual types of servings, such as 2 eggs, 2 slices bacon and toast with jelly and a pancake or two. I drink coffee with milk and some sugar. I don't worry too much about lots of protein. Also, I only carb up from Friday Night 7PM to Saturday night at 11PM. Because my carb-up is short at 24 hours, I eat all kinds of carbs and I probably take in about 5000 calories in that time period. I do try to eat clean in between meals but since my carb-ups are short, I can't help but pig out. As long as I get back on low-carb on Sunday-Friday, I don't gain fat.

Thanks for the link have been reading, also thanks for all your advice was helpful. I wish someone who's following the M.A.N.S. diet could explain the carb loading phase for me as I am more interested in knowing marks reason's to change the anabolic diet such as the ratios in the macronutrient as mark never explains or goe's into detail of the ratio. I think if mark did update the M.A.N.S. Diet Book and explain his reasons for his thoughts on this matter would be very incitful. I still think the book is very valuble and has been one of the best books on muscle building I have downloaded. Like to say thank's mark for sharing your knowledge and ideas on muscle building, still in ernest of knowing the carb phase on M.A.N.S. :)
