Protein

Postby omaragha on Fri Apr 10, 2009 12:41 am

Apologies if this is the wrong forum,

I have just found this site, I have been training for so long now and have been applying monster effort but for relatively little gain. In fact i think I have been working out too much and not taking in enough Protein.

According to the calculations found on this site i.e. lean mass x 2.75 for me = 187 gs of protein I need to take, and I haven't been taking anywhere near enough historically.

My questions is should I be taking protein on my days off from training ? I train mon - fri and will now be using the THT training method. So should I be taking protein on Sat and Sun as well ?

If you're following a traditional diet, yes you should.

Could you expand on that a little please ? i.e the only way I can take on this much protein is by loading up on shakes, and what you are saying is that I should still take them on my days off ?

What do you mean protein? As a nutritient? Yes you must consume protein everyday.

If you are asking for protein supplements, you should take protein supplements if you find difficult to take all the protein you need from food. Most of us have difficulty, so we take supplements.

Hi, Thanks for all the replies,

let me elaborate, using the calculation of lean mass x 2.75 = this equals 187 grms of protein I need to take.

Do I take this amount of protein either by food or supplements on my days off training ? Or should I only be consuming 187 grms of protein on my days where i DO train ?

Apologies if i have not made myself clear.

Thanks

Dude, if you can't figure out a way to down 200g of protein without shakes, that's your problem right there. You need to be sitting down to a serving of protein every single meal. Hell, try living with ZERO protein shakes for a week while planning how to hit your protein target and you'll learn how to eat!

Hints: chicken breast, pork loin, hamburgers meat, edamame (soybeans) all help.

Hi, I know how to take protein in without shakes I just sometimes cant be bothered to cook is all.

On another note I have started using Fitday and recording everything I consume. In order to gain lean mass and lose fat what should be my calorie intake a day ? Also with respect to fats, carbs and proteins should they all be in equal proportion ? i.e 33/33/33 as a percentage ? What diet do you guys recommend that i follow ? By the way I am 5ft 10in and weigh 206 lbs. My current lean mass is approx 150 lbs.

33% was used in the past in bbing,it is not used much today. GLAD (40/30/30 carbs/protein/fats) is always the traditional diet of bbers with the Zone (30/40/30) even today and MANS is the best low-carb diet can be used. High carb diets (carbs over 50%) are not bbing diets in my opinion. They suit better on a distance runner or an athlete (not strength athletes though) .

Then just know that you are choosing not to be bothered with getting maximal results. That's fine. But it's your choice. Nobody said it'd be easy to do without being "bothered".

If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Right?
