Relation of Ketogenic Diet with the Brain

Postby 1300131300 on Sun Dec 25, 2011 3:24 am

Does the MANS diet, which I understand to be a form of Ketogenic Diet, have any effect on the brain? Because it is widely regarded that the brain can only run on glucose. And when youre on this diet, youre not getting much of that. This led me to speculate that brain activity will be lessened. Is this true? Any views on this?

Thank you, they were quite informative articles. The thing is, it seems like there is no concrete evidence of anything there. Just 'feeling'. I guess we can pretty much say that cyclical ketogenic diets (such as MANS) are fine in relation to the brain. Do you have any other sources of any other information? I guess I shall start up on this, don't want my brain to be impaired in any way though. :)

The brain works perfectly well on Keytones, which are produced on a low carb diet. I have been living on a low carb diet, ether MANS or TSPA, or my own variations of them for about eight months now. I am studing Sports Nutrition and i'm also taking a degree in Psychology (so i sepend a lot of time studying) and my brain works every bit as bad as it ever has :)
