Whose a GLADiator out there?

Postby andrewpmast on Fri Apr 24, 2009 1:31 pm

I'm big into the glycemic load diet as I love carbs and I find it easy to eat butter beans, whole grains and what not.

Any others doing the GLAD thing? I really wish there was a more comprehensive look at GLAD. I feel like it's not as comprehensive as MANS. Perhaps we as Mark for a GLAD forum under diet to help keep GLAD stuff separate from MANS stuff.

Anyway, I've love to hear from other GLADiators out there.

The Gladiator's Diet

Hehe I just couldn't resist :D
Packing in the carbs also packed on the pounds. "Gladiators needed subcutaneous fat," Grossschmidt explains. "A fat cushion protects you from cut wounds and shields nerves and blood vessels in a fight." Not only would a lean gladiator have been dead meat, he would have made for a bad show. Surface wounds "look more spectacular," says Grossschmidt. "If I get wounded but just in the fatty layer, I can fight on," he adds. "It doesn't hurt much, and it looks great for the spectators."

Wish I could, but every time I try the cravings come raging back and my face starts to look like a pizza.

I've been on a GLAD-ish type diet for about 8 months now. Typically I eat a mix of about 40% protein and 30% carb/fat. Most of my carbs are from lower glycemic fruits and some from whole grains. A good portion of my carb intake is in the morning, with it steadily decreasing through the day until afternoon which is protein/fat only after that point.

It's worked very well for me and I've managed to integrate it into my daily life quite effectively to get results and keep them, which was something I was not successful with doing on MANS.

Goes to show that every human body is different, and it's important to keep trying until you find a program that works well for you long-term! Your progress is inspiring, keep it up!

I'm so glad you took the time to post this! This ratio has been percolating in the back of my mind for a long time now, since I always have a hard time holding down my protein to a "high-fat/low-carb" level. I would certainly prefer to eat a GLAD-style diet, but my brain chemistry and skin don't seem to like that many carbs. And since I worry that I eat too much protein to stop excess from being converted to glucose, I was thinking this might be a good compromise. Seems like if I keep my fats low I probably wouldn't have a problem putting on fat from the glucose that was converted from protein. I'd rather eat 12 ounces of skinless chicken breast than 3 ounces of steak any day!

Now I just have to determine whether it's the fruit, grain, or legume carbs that are doing me in with the cravings and the acne.
