hernia

I have just found out that I have an umbilical hernia. My doc tells me that I should not workout but I'm not convinced that I should do nothing. Has anyone ever had this and if so was there any weight training that could be done? As well how about HIIT? Any advise would be great!

Generally speaking if your doc says no, don't do it. If your physio says it's ok however, then that's fine (IMO). Personally I'd get the hernia sorted out first, then start the weights again.

You can acquire those?! I thought they were just something you were born with. They run in my family; my older cousin and I had ours surgically fixed when we were toddlers, but my sisters never got it done. I'm pretty sure it's just cosmetic, and just makes you a super "outie" (the surgery, in fact, makes you a super "innie"). No biggie.

I have read that cardio should be fine but anything that causes you to put pressure on your abdomen causing outward pressure I shouldn't do. I don't want to make it worse but I can't get an appointment for a consult with a surgon until October 1st (way too long sitting on my a##). :| I am thinking it may be worth the risk and just try to be concious of the injury and not do ab exercises :?:
