Motivation, or lack there of.

Postby lv2snwbrd on Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:34 pm

I made it through two cycles of THT 2.0 earlier in the year and I absolutely loved it! Well, shortly after starting my third cycle I injured myself a few times and it bought me to a screeching halt with my workout. Quite frankly, I am finding it a little difficult finding the motivation to get myself back in the gym. I know that once I make it consistantly for a week or two that it will be habit again and I will once again look forward to going. I guess I just need to man up and start going regardless of if I actually want to or not.

An even bigger hurdle for me is the whole diet thing. I haven't been able to make myself committ to one of the two diets that Mark reccomends so highly. Don't get me wrong, I do make sure that I am getting enough protien and I take my vitamins when I am working out. I just lack the motivation that is required to fully committ to such a rigerous diet. :(

"The first 1000 mile march was started with a single step!"

Think about this statement and you will see that you need to get back into training one step at a time.

Firstly myself I would make sure that I could make time for the training at a regular time/interval. I normally train before I go to work (meaning that I train at 06:00 on my early shift and 07:00 on my later shifts), I know this isn't the ideal time for most people to train due to being so soon after getting up, but it allows me to train regularly and at the same time of day. Once you get used to it, it is not a problem.

Secondly I would wait until I had the regular training sorted before trying to concentrate on diet. Without constant regular training you can't sort out the correct diet. After taking a while to get over your injuries and into regular training your motivation should have improved enough allowing you to concentrate on diet. If you're eating well, then you should still grow once your training takes off, so the diet becomes a way of fine tuning everything.

It may be a good idea to look at some positive thinking exercises or philosophy. A friend studying "sports psychology" once told me that the most important part of an athlete is the top two inches, meaning it is what goes on inside the brain of an athlete that decides how good the performance is!
To be successful you need your ABC's; Application-belief-commitment. If any one of these are missing you will struggle to achieve your goals. Setting short term goals will also help you to get back on the right road one step at a time.

Good luck! let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the response graham, it was greatly appriciated! I somehow found my motivation. I just finished up week one of my latest cycle of THT! I used week one to just ease back into working out since it has been a few months since I last went to the gym. Next week I will hit it the way I should be, I just don't want to injure myself by jumping back in to fast. Been there, done that! I was able to motivate myself into trying to ease into MANS as well, didn't think I had it in me. As far as the diet goes, I think it should be an easy transition for me. I thought the hardest thing would be giving up beer during the week, but to be honest it was a piece of cake! I even wrote a short review of Musclehack.com and put it on the website I recently started. Whew, it's been a busy week!

Working out is hard by definition. So, asking a bunch of strangers without even telling us
if you have a gym membership or need to burn fat or build muscle, is not going to get you
where you want to go.

Decide what it is you want and just go after it. Either you want to get bigger or you don't. Either you want to shed fat or you don't. Either you want to train or you don't. Decide what you want and just do it. :D :D :D

And remember you can't be stopped unless you choose to be stopped.
