Starting out?

Postby elzime on Fri May 15, 2009 4:55 pm

Hey,

Alright so to put it simply, I have been i distance runner for a fair while now and have lost a huge amount of size from running. I really dont carry alot of muscle these days and am quite lean. About 9% body fat. i am kean to start building up my body and would like to know whether you recommend the M.A.N.S diet or should i carb up first and then try out the diet later. I am moving straight onto your workout routines this monday and would love to know what diet i should follow to see the benefits straight away. Can i follow the M.A.N.S diet straight away and go to having no carbs after being very dependant on carbs for my running and will i see the gains that i am hoping for by going this direction or should i carb up first?

Cheers

I don't understand what you mean by following the MANS diet first OR carbing up first. MANS includes carbing up-- that's the point! Otherwise, it would just be a low carb diet heavy with red meats and saturated fat. Now, if you mean should you start off with two weeks of low carb before doing a carb up, or doing a carb-up and then starting the two weeks of low carb, well, if you're not low-carbing now, it seems to me that carbing up would pretty much just be a continuation of the way you're eating now. So I'd say you've already done that part; go ahead and move on to the first two weeks of MANS to get fat-adapted, and once you are sure you are, then enjoy your first MANS-style carb-up!

Does that answer your question?

Apparently, Michelle cloned my brain to say exactly what I was going to say before I said it. And I finished writing it, clicked "submit", and she'd already written it. So I'm writing this instead:

I agree :) Spend two weeks getting fat-adapted, then start enjoying your carb-ups. MANS is great for bulking up on muscle without adding lots of fat.
