New to forum/My story

Hi. my name is Nick and I'm 21 years old and since I came out the womb I was overweight, but as of 9 months ago I decided to make a change. I joined a gym and within a few weeks I met someone who had been in the same boat I was and he told me what he did to lose weight and get into shape. We became close friends and lifting partners. just after 6 months I lost a total of 79 pounds I went from 252 to 173 and dropped my body fat from 32% to around 14%. I gained back 7 pounds because I looked sickly for lack of a better term but was able to maintain my body fat percentage. Just recently my partner decided that he wants to bulk up and start doing more powerlifting than bodybuilding. After losing all this weight i honestly don't want to go down that road yet. Is there a way for us to still be partners or does this mean its time for us to go our sperate ways?

Hello Nick

Well from one Bear to another - I dont see the problem. You will still be spending time in the gym, only slightly focussing on different intensity/style of exercising, but essentially at some point or other you will both need to bench press, squat or what ever exercise you are doing and need someone to spot you.

It doesnt matter if when they get on the iron, they do a slight variation of the exercise or put on more weight to the bar. You will both need a spot no matter what your training interest is. The point is you dont have to train exactly the same as the guy you are working with.

On a final note though, surely if you are now pals this shouldnt be an issue? You enjoy each others company and you go to the same gym. Dont worry about it, and keep training.
