sex and working out?

Postby my23rdwish on Wed Jul 15, 2009 3:39 pm

As much as it is inportant proper hormonal levels to maximize muscle growth, does it work against you to have sex or too much sex? in relation to working out. Am I cutting back on proper growth with sex or too much sex? I heard that boxer Ocscar de Lahoya doesnt have sex for 2 weeks before a fight. Its there any relevence to this issue?

De La Hoya is a pro. He gets paid to (ahem) lay off getting laid. If you are seriously considering letting bodybuilding get in the way of your sex life, I think it is time for you to re-examine your priorities and maybe talk to a professional about the unhealthy level of obsession you have reached.

Seriously though, is that really what you want your tombstone to read like? Is it really going to matter if you didn't add that one more kilogram that you could have over the course of your life if only you hadn't been giving the wife a little pickle tickle?! Once you take care of a basic level of providing for your food, clothing, shelter, the rest should be spent in joy.

I don't know about anyone else but I have much more drive than I did before I started working out regularly. I don't care about any minor gains that I might lose out on. In fact, I think the opposite might be true and I could probably count it as another workout.

I'm fairly certain that sexual activity would increase your testosterone anyway. The only reason to abstain temporarily that I can see is that it would take time and recovery energy away from training efforts, like a big push before a fight. I guess the logic being, "if you're f#$&ing you're not fighting..." I'll pass. I think most guys do bodybuilding so they can get more, not less.

I'm 100% in support of sex as much as possible. During workout I imagine 'the chase' which in many cases gives me a boost. I suspect that sex is best post-workout... Observing other mammals, they work hard in competition and chase after their partners in order to mate. The chase produces an increase in adrenalin and testotersone... and then the follow-up is sex. After that, get some water, eat some... lay around. It sounds like natural order to me. Sex is indicative of life, reproduction, success and survival, so it leads that a lack of it is indicative of aging, submission and death... I plan to have as much as possible and as long into my life as possible to convince my body that I'm healthy strong and potent! ;)

That's all my OPINION based on no research, but fortunately I have found research in support of my suspicions.

1. Because testosterone levels are minimized in the presence of elevated insulin levels, the pre-workout meal should consist of lipids and protein - both of which have negligible impacts on insulin levels.

2. Research demonstrates that testosterone levels rise as a response to sexual stimuli. Therefore, an athlete could benefit pre-workout by being exposed pre-workout to sexual stimuli. The athlete could then exercise with increased testosterone levels and aggression.

3. Post-workout, the athlete should consume a protein drink with flax oil or olive oil. Lipids facilitate the passive permeation of the cell wall by sex hormones.

4. One hour post-exercise, the athlete should achieve ejaculation. This will increase the natural level of killer cells, thus increasing immune-system function and enhancing recovery abilities. The increase in killer cells will prevent over-training.

You may also choose to postpone the achievement of ejaculation for seven days so as to maximize testosterone on a day of the athletes choosing - i.e. on the hardest training or competition day. If the athlete chooses this protocol, ejaculation should be achieved on the seventh day, post workout and according to the above protocol, so as to avoid the negative feedback suppression of LH demonstrated on day eight of abstinence.

Natural testosterone fluctuations can be manipulated only within the context of hormonally correct exercise and nutrition. If nutrition or exercise are inappropriate and if insulin and estrogen levels rise, testosterone, GH and IGF-1 will be adversely impacted and muscle growth inhibited.
