Anyone got any tips on avoiding aching hands after doing biceps exercises?

Buy some lifting gloves. They come in real handy especially with the bigger lifts like the deads.

Straps are helpful with grip issues too!

Some lubricant before and after so that hands become soft and gloves.

I love blisters!!!

I don't mind the blisters but my wife hates it when I grab her breasts since they are so rough and sharp....so I might have to sand them down with a fingernail file (which does a good job).

Bicep gone week!

Postby sjmaine on Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:04 pm

Hey there.

Can anyone help? My left arm has suddenly gone week. I felt it was a bit ´off´ a day or two ago and now I can hardly flex it , much softer than the right. Like it is running on half power. I have torn the bicep tendon in the other side before and it is not quite the same but similar. Could a strain or just over working it do this???

Steve.

Gosh, sorry to hear this. Does it hurt? If so, where does it hurt? Does it hurt if you press around with your fingers all over your shoulder, bicep, elbow, forearm?

I recently had a pain in my bicep (from too heavy too fast) and ended up taking 2 weeks off. MAX-OT

Anyway, the pain I had wasn't in my bicep at all, but in my supinator which I had to press and hold (over and over) to get blood to the area, and then follow up with a cold pack. (Chiropractors advice)

I'm happy to say, that with a slow increase of higher reps (than MAX-OT), I have got my strength and confidence back. BUT, I'm going to take it slow.

Bicep gone week!

There is only a bit of tenderness in my elbow but nowhere else. The bicep its self feels fine, just .... a lot softer than normal when I flex it. Half the strength too.

Inside elbow or the outside?

Like redgiki was saying in another thread, typically if it hurts one arm it's a good sign of injury, if it's both arms, it's a good sign of soreness.

Give direct bicep work a few weeks off. You get plenty of bicep work from other exercises (so I have read over and over and Jeff Willet talks about it when Stuart McDonald injures his bicep). Using your thumb push around until you find a sore spot and press down and hold it for 10 seconds... do that for a while until if feels loose and then put an ice pack on it. Take an anti-inflammatory (like advil) to help ease the swelling. After a few weeks, start slow and low and do a lot of reps to see if it feels painful. If you feel pain, stop and try again next workout.

Of course, that's all what I did when I hurt my arm, so it's merely my own prescription.
