Twice A Day?

Postby Groove999 on Thu Feb 05, 2009 3:05 am

Would you guys say that the best way to take in Whey protein would be twice a day? One after workout and one before bed? I was just wondering if there were any benefits If I were to divide my night time shake into two and take one in the mid morning.. Like

11:00AM - Protein shake (Isopure - 25g - 0c)
3:00 PM - Protein shake post workout (Isopure - 50g - 0c - 5g creatine - 5g l-glutamine)
9:30 PM - Protein shake (Isopure - 25g - 0c - 5g l-glutamine - 15g fat (Heavy Cream)

Also would it be a bad idea to be taking heavy cream with my post workout shake? I have been for the past few weeks and would like to know if I should not. Also would you recommend taking a low fat, pure shake post workout (ie isopure) then take a high fat blended shake (ie muscle milk) at night?

Thanks!

I try to get as much of my nutrition as possible from whole foods rather than supplements. So if you ask me, I say limit your protein shakes to right after your workout.

I track everything I eat to figure out all my macro and micro-nutrients. Fitday.com and thedailyplate.com are both great sites for this. If you track what you eat for a few weeks, it becomes obvious where and what you should include or eliminate.

I only ingest a whey shake twice a day:

1. One hour before workout and
2. within an hour after workout.

These are the best times to take in whey. If you want a nighttime protein, stick with casein or a blend with a good amount of casein in it. Whey digests more quickly than other protein sources and therefore it isn't going to give you the stready trickle of amino acids that a slower-digesting casein source will.
