question about whey and beef

Postby mykim0 on Wed May 06, 2009 2:10 am

1)Does it matter if i decide to have a full meal instead of whey post workout? I know that the meal would be absorbed significantly slower than whey, but is this a problem for muscle growth?

2)I found an amazing price for ground beef at trader joe's. Only $1.99 per pound. Problem is that it is not "grass fed" and I only eat grass fed beef. Is it dangerous to eat non grass fed beef? It does not say what kind of feed is used on the label. Im just worried because what if these cows are fed animal feed? I know that the risk of mad cow is like 1 in a billion but still, it worries me. At the same time, this price seems unbeatable and I would rather have a full meal instead of whey.

1) I am starting doing this regularly (having my pre-workout with whey, milk and fruit or cereal) and my post workout meal is a big solid meal (I usually had a shake immidiately after and then after an hour a meal). The only difference is that I wait about 30-45min for the single meal. And I can say I feel great this way. More nutritients, more sources of protein than a shake. You can see it else, pre workout for energy, post workout for nutritient. Anyway test it on your own. I have read many blogs of athletes.Other have shakes and other have solid meals after workout. I don't think there's much difference really. Your effort in the gym is the difference.

I use to have 200g of salmon with 100g of pasta and loads of red onions, tomatoes, and parsley made into a homemade salsa about 45 minutes after workout which was my favourite meal of the week 3 workouts a week 3 favourite dinners a week can’t get better than that :)

Salmon reaches the muscles faster than meat but not as quick as protein shake.
