supplement timing

Postby figuresgirl on Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:44 pm

I am currently taking Omega 3's, vitamin C, a multivitamin, glucosamine and chromium. Is it ok to take all of these at the same time, in the morning? I've heard in the past that some of them should not be taken together to maximize absorption, but I can't remember which ones conflict with each other. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

The only bad combinations I know of specifically that inhibit each others absorption are calcium/iron and zinc/copper. I would check the values on your multivitamin supplement as the chromium may not be necessary since it's probably in there already. The Vitamin C is usually unnecessary as it's going to be abundant in any multivitamin and is also rather common and easy to get from food (know of any friends who ever had scurvy?). The only benefit of taking more Vitamin C would be if you are vegetarian and need to take it with your meals to increase iron absorption which is low for vegetarians. Otherwise it will just get passed through the digestive system without getting absorbed if the body doesn't need it.
