Leg workout at home.....

Postby mma on Tue May 25, 2010 3:24 pm

I train from home. I have Barbells, Dumbbells, and heaps of weight, more than I can use. The foundation of my leg workouts is the squat - back squats. And I squat deeeep. However I have a shoulder injury at the moment (un-weight training related), and I cannot support the weight on it.

I am wondering: Can I build decent leg mass (mostly upper legs) and also strength with:

(walking) lunges
bulgarian squats (also known as 'split leg squats' I believe)
deadlifts
& lying leg curls?

What other exercises are available to me to build strength and mass? I know there's Sumo Squats, Front Squats, step ups, calf raises (calves aren't a priority though) and so forth.....

Which will build the best mass and which the most strength? I'm a beginner I suppose, so I appreciate any answers.

Thankyou!

Well, since you can't do squats you can't do lunges cause you gotta put the barbell the same way. Everything seems to involve your shoulder in some way. I'd do Bulgarian Squats and Romanian Deadlifts to build your quads and hams.

Pistol squats? Single-leg squats?

Deadlifts are the obvious choice for mass and strength. However, the heavy loads on this exercise may still pose a problem for your shoulders. If you want to emphasize the legs and reduce the stress on the shoulders a dumbbell lunge or split squat can work great. You can also perform bodyweight-only squats and one-leg squats with or without additional weight (dumbbells).
