DEADLIFTS and DIZZINESS??!!

Postby ellipsis on Fri Jan 13, 2012 8:33 pm

I usually do 3 sets of 6 reps on the deadlift. I go all out on the last set. I am usually always dizzy, especially after the last set. The other night after my second set I felt like I was going to pass out. I didn't do my 3rd set obviously. I can never seem to get a good breath between reps. I dont want to quit doing them but I've gotten to the point where I almost dread them.
Does anyone else have this problem with deadlifts??? Is there a proper way to breathe while doing them???

Yip, i get dizzy all the time doing deadlifts. As for the breating, it's the same as with any lift. Breath out on the effort and in on the way down. The thing is that on such a big lift which takes so much energy i don't think it make a huge difference either way. The damn things are hard. I normally have to hold on to the rack for a few seconds after finishing.

Yeah, I think my weight belt lessons my breathing ability. Really out of breath too on dead lifts. I might get a weight belt that has a narrow front because I think it squeezes my diaphram from expanding down and out.

I don't wear a belt unless i am aiming for a weight i can only lift 2 or 3 times, which i rarely do. Belts for dead lifts and squats can weaken your back, because they take the strain that your muscles can't, there for the rest of the back gets proportionaly stronger than the lower back. And trust me you want a strong lower back. That is one of the reason on THT you only get a rep range of 6 for the dead lift while everything else is between 8 and 12. Another reason being that 8 to 12 reps builds size and a large lower back means a large waist. Rep ranges of 6 build strength, not size.
