great exercise for 6 pak

Postby cudd2287 on Mon Oct 24, 2011 6:03 pm

Has any1 tried crunches on either a boso ball or on an exercise ball. I myself usualy stay clear of exercise balls mostly because i dnt think doing anything other than crunches are good 4 it , all these personal trainers out there going functional training crasy making peoplle doing crasy exercises like squating on unstable surfaces like an exer ball check the pic lol .But the great thing about the exer ball crunch means u can get a full stretch on your abs and a greater range of motion as u can go alll the way back because yuor back is supported. try them out u get a real good burn even at low reps of 8-10 if done correctly. if on an exer ball have ur ass bout 6 inches of floor with hands over head lower for 4 secs to hands touch floor hold for 2 secs then raise in control and fully contract abs and hold for 2 secs. hands should not pass perpendicular to floor at top of movement. Give it a go very good exercise

Sorry but that just looks like a good way to get hurt. I wonder how people got great set of abs prior to shit like this? oh thats right they just did normal exercises. People need to stop looking for tricks and just to do the tried and true exercises pushing hard all the time, thats how you get a great body including abs not doing bullshit stuff like that.

I don't personally like those balls. THe lack of stability really bothered me the few times I played with one. You can do many of the exact same exercises with a simple incline/decline bench and a 45lb weight plate. even hardcore guys like sly don't bother with them. his broom handle ab exercise is pretty intense tho. http://www.askmen.com/sports/bodybuildi ... s_tip.html

Just my 2 cents.

i dont bother with them either think ther pretty much useless but this is great for the abs because u can get a full rom and a good stretch in ur abs while the ball supports ur bak :D

Hi Cudd,

"sorry to burst your ball!" (pun intended).

But I'm old school. I don't like these things, I think they are a load of balls!

But seriously look at the picture of the guy doing squats with the spotter/personal trainer behind him. How's he going to catch him with all that weight on the bar if the ball bursts????
It's this point amongst others that really makes me steer clear of these balls.
The best place for a ball is out on the playing field and not in the gym where they can be a real danger! Execise balls and personal trainers who are looking for the next crazy exercise that is going to revolutionise the training world are like putting gunpowder and a naked flame together in the same room!!!! LOL.

Sorry I know we're getting away from the point of doing crunches on the ball.

But if the guy doing the squats on the ball wants to really imrpove his stabilising muscles whilst doing squats, then surely he would be better off doing them on the HIGHWIRE!!!
Now that would really work his stabilising muscles!!
I think I might just have found the next 'must do' exercise!
Just remember guys; credit where it's due; I came up with the idea first and you saw it on this site first right! ;)

Graham.

Hi Cudd,

Using one of these balls for the abs' as you have shown in the photo would probably work ok. as these balls are best for working the core and nothing else. I haven't tried these because I find the abs are like any other muscle and respond quite well to lowish reps 8-15 with weight. ie weighted (if you need it) hanging leg raise/curls, weighted decline sit-ups etc. I find hanging leg/knee raises done slow work well for abs. And you can pull the legs/knees to either side or to the front or all three, done with weighted decline sit-ups aswell really make your abs scream! When doing weighted sit-ups i hold the weight above the head at all times as this increases the leverage and therefore the weight on the abs.
Now we've cleared that up, perhaps we should start a new thread to see who can find the craziest training exercise pictures, although we'll have to go some to beat the squats on the ball! May be there is a picture out there somewhere with some one actually doing squats on a Highwire! LOL
I noticed there were 88 views of this post but only 7 replies, so come on guys get looking for those crazy pic's and post a reply. You don't have to have any bodybuilding knowledge to find crazy pic's. The site forum is only what you make it!

Good luck, Graham
