Lunge alternatives?

Postby bigbob on Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:12 pm

Looking for some lunge alternatives. i work out from home so dont have access to press machines etc, i have a bench, squat rack, dumbbells, bar etc
I already do squats and calf raises and i quite simply cannot do lunges - even without weight i lack the balance and form

Personally, I have never been convinced of the alleged importance of doing lunges. Lunges work the thighs - quadriceps and hamstrings. So do presses, so do squats. Normally I'd tell you make friends with the press machine, but since that's not an option for you, trystep-ups since you have the required equipment. :)

And while we're talking about my FAVORITE day of the week... if you aren't already doing SLDLs (aka Romanian deadlifts), start. Just putting that out there.

You could do Barbell Hack Squats or Dumbbell Split Squat.

JoH lately I have been doing straight leg deadlifts with the t-bar row very intense.

Shame you can't do lunges they're very good,

You could try squats

Try stair climbing, do them nice and slow, good technique keep your knees high and it's a great leg exercise.
