One other exercise to add to my shoulders?

Postby JohnOregon on Wed Apr 20, 2011 3:15 pm

Currently doing super sets of Lateral raises and then immediately seated overhead dumbbell press.
3 sets (a set is both)
Is there another exercise I could do after this?

Hey johnOregon

Front lateral raises, seated bent over reverse shoulder fly and finish with arnie press, with the reverse fly make sure you keep elbows out and up and bringing elbows parallel with your ears or it could easilly turn into a back excercise especially as you fatigue, better doing these seated because of this, as it stops alot of upper body movement and isolates the rear deltoid better, this will hit all three heads for you john :)

I substitute Upright Rows for Shrugs. They both hit the traps, and Upright Rows also hit the front shoulders and, secondarily, even the biceps.

Hey johnOregon

I'm giving those three excercises together if you fancied switching it up, but i was emphasising bent over reverse shoulder fly as your add on excercise because i didn't think you were hitting your rear deltoid enough, sorry for the mix up john i see where you might have got the info wrong from me i do apologise! So yeah reverse fly as the add on excercise, but those three excercises together if you wanted to mix it up from time to timeas it hits all three heads!

The arnie press, well he invented this movement himself back in his day and it would be easier to google it and see what you think of it rather than me trying to explain it, you can get videos of it showing the movement and it is a great mass builder, and also like what dsharp has suggested for your traps! But definitly google the arnie press and try it out for yourself bro.

I was looking at Marks artical The THT 2.0 Training Cycle for Shoulders & Traps Day and in the comments are the following:

Question by mike, Mark do you ever do Arnold presses. Would you recomend them.

Marks reply @mike. No. I actually think it’s a dumb exercise. There’s no advantage to the rotating movement. In fact, it just makes it more awkward. The most comfortable position at the bottom of the rep is with palms facing out, not in.

Hey stickupkid

Alot of bodybuilders and weight lifters do use this excercise as an alternative i use it myself from time to time and i feel it puts the shoulders under tension for longer than most excersises as most shoulder excercise noteably have a start and a finish where there can be a little bit of cheating done, (LIKE MOST EXCERSISES) i think thats what arnie was getting at when he came up with this excercise it was all about T.U.T and yes it is awkward and people dont like using it because of this reason, nothing is set in stone in this game i was merely giving johnOregon alternatives

I'm going to stay close to what our lord and master, Mark, says.
I might add lying L flies just because it's considered a good one to avoid injuries.
Too much verbage sometimes for me to register. I am an old man.

LALA I didn’t mean to debunk or personally attack your reply I just thought that JohnOregon should have both sides of the opinion
