Pushing yourself to the max

Postby richard-a on Tue Jul 14, 2009 1:51 am

I've just got back from the gym after my leg workout and think I can safely say I overdid it a bit. Apart from the fact the squat rack is downstairs in the gym which always makes walking up the stairs straight after a leg workout an additional workout in itself, the walk home was pretty hard work and when I got in my GF commented that I was really pale. I felt like vomiting, was light headed, and promptly slept for 40 minutes, unable to get off the sofa. I've had this happen only a few times in my life, mostly after really heavy sessions like the one I just had, or fitness trials, etc where I've been really pushing myself. Is this normal, or due to lack of fitness, poor nutrition (I've not been eating many carbs over the weekend, mostly BBQed meat!) or something else? Any thoughts?

Gidday Richard, you know you overdid it. The idea is to have elevated hormones after workouts. Unless you are a Pro Bodybuilder who's whole life revolves around recovery, by whatever, by any means, and bodybuilding shows, its detrimental to you, to put yourself in that condition. Training is to enhance your life and performance... (ie, lucky your GF didn't finish you off).

You obviously possess awesome focus, determination and drive, which can be a double edged sword. Imagine focusing that ability on leaving yourself in the perfect state, the perfect workout for maximum results. Here's a challenge for you. From now on for a minute or so, 3 times a day, fully feel and re-live any time in your life when you felt awesome, happy, successful, confident, sure and fullfilled. Emotion. The energiser. Feel it. Then, for 5 minutes, put that feeling, that emotion into imagining strutting home after the ultimate workout, feeling totally up. Feel and imagine yourself so inspired by having found the ultimate training system for you. Use your imagination. Use variety, make it fun and interesting, (ie, you could see your deleriously happy, satisfied GF, staring at you in disbelief after an entirely different scenario upon getting home for your workout, and hear her commenting on your awesome 'performance' and great progress, feeling and imagining how inspired and up you are.

Then relax, carry out your life, if something pops up, grabs your attention, follow it up, but let the right things come to you. Relax, but also pay attention to any thoughts that contradict/oppose your goal and focus. If they happen, over rule them, choose the ones you really want, use that technique to keep your focus on what you really want. Its interesting for people to realise that often they spend all day inadvertantly focusing on exactly what they don't really want, so guess what they get, what they are experts at. We are creatures of habit, again a double edged sword, but a powerfull tool if we are in control of it. Anyway, its a truly beneficial way to direct your incredible drive and energy. Look around, we all get what we knowingly or unknowingly focus on.

From now on, all that exsists is Richard's fantastic workouts that leave him feeling stoked. Ignore anything else. Focus.
