Super sets

Postby Sloggs on Wed Sep 08, 2010 12:03 pm

I am currently doing Mark's THT new volume cycle which includes super sets. Not having read any THT programmes earlier that THT3, does anyone know how many reps you should be doing in the second part of the super set.

I know the optimum rep range is 8-12, but when doing a super set does that mean 8-12 for the total super set or 8-12 for each part (i.e. for chest, 8-12 reps of pec deck followed by 8-12 reps of bench press)? Thanks

Newbie here... but my understanding that on his spreadsheet, he refers to a superset as a group that has more than one exercise. So legs is a set with one exercise (squats). Shoulders are a superset because it has more than one exercise. All exercises are to be done 8-12 reps, 1 set (conventional usage). I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong, which is great.

My thought is if I can explain it, I must understand it, so this reply is just as much for my knowledge as well.

Use the example of Lat raises supersetted with Overhead Press

Do 8-12 reps of lat raises then directly do 8-12 reps of overhead press.

Simple as that.

If ta 3.0 its one full set together, if doing 3.1 you will be doing two of these supersets.

All exercises for 3.1 are 8-12 range, this includes both parts of supersets / dropsets as well. In order to ensure that you achieve the 8-12 reps on subsequent sets drop the weight by one third if necessary.
