I am looking for an answer or debate on the age old question of low reps heavy weight vs high reps moderate weight for muscle size gains.
I have been training on 5x5 for 1 year. I have made incredible gains in strength, but honestly not much in size. For instance I was doing deadlifts 5x5 with 80 lbs. Now i am doing 5x5 with 240 lbs.
Problem is while I wanted to get stronger, I started lifting to gain muscle size. I was a skinny 150 lbs. I am now at 180 lbs with a gut, like a powerlifter gut!
Unless I haven't given it enough time (1year) 5 sets of 5 reps just doesn't seem to be the way to go for maximum size gains.
I have also noticed a difference in the pictures of people who are on both programs, and the people on THT appear to have more muscle "SIZE". But almost every weightlifting/bodybuilding page or article people seem to swear by heavy weight low reps for size!!
Thinking about starting THT. Time is precious to me at 41 years old, I don't like to waste my time.
What is your opinion of THT for SIZE gains vs 5x5????
