Very serious, please help. *Headache when working out*

Postby H2o-KiD on Thu Sep 17, 2009 12:03 pm

I am still a beginner but this didn't happen to me before in the past not until this week. I am not sick. But when I start lifting today, after 2 sets of Deadlifts, heck, I don't even go to Failure but just short, I still able to get 12 reps for 2 sets but not baby weight. Then, the headache start to occur. At first, it was minor headache and I still able to continue my workout. Then, after a set of Bent-Over Barbell Row, like no way man! The headache start to become serious and forced me to lie on my bed after the set. I keep telling myself no matter what, I must finish the workout, so after 3 minutes of lying-resting on the bed, I get up and do another set of Barbell row again with the headache. Then, after my 2nd set of barbell row, the headache became a little more intense and I also feel like VOMITING my Pre-workout shake but I didn't. Pretty much I have a headache + vomit feeling. Lie down again on my bed maxed out my fan blowing on me. Then, I ***cking gave up on my workout and keep resting there and ended up sleeping for 30 minutes. When I wake up, the headache is gone. Damn, this is pissing me off. The headache is not as serious as in you can't really even get up and see things properly but it's quite intense that made me gave up working out half way today.

All in all, I feel Headache and Vomiting feeling.

Anyone here have had similar problem like mine before? Any opinions why on earth does this headache and vomiting feeling suddenly pop out of sudden.

- Working out too hard? (Nawww... I don't think so)
- Didn't breath properly? (Even though sometimes I hold my breath a bit and messed up a bit exhaling on the eccentric and inhale on the concentric but this was never an issue before. Well, maybe this is why it causes me to headache? What you guys think?)
- Too stuffed when working out? (I drank my shake 30 minutes before I start working out. I don't think this is the problem but it could be why I feel like vomiting?)

Other than that, I cannot think of what would have caused them. Please, give me advice.

so i 've only had a headache happen a couple of times, but i have lifted so hard i almost puked quite a bit... it was when i was doing squats a few times, and deadlifts a few more. i think what you were experiencing is a sharp spike in blood pressure. when doing big compound lifts like deadlifts, it requires a lot of oxygen running through your bloodstream to the parts of the body which are working. with so many parts working, your blood pressure goes really high temporarily, similar to when you're doing HIIT, or some other form of super intense exercise. this spike in blood pressure can have all kinds of side effects, like headache, nausea, dizziness, and other things like that. the good news is that you should eventually get used to that kind of exertion, and your body wont react so drastically. as a matter of fact that is a good indicator that you are working extremely hard while lifting!

Sometimes it just happens. My husband, who is in awesome shape, has had the headache-so-bad-you-have-to-lie-on-the-garage-floor while deadlifting. And there was really no rhyme or reason to it. Just a blood pressure spike that causes the headache and eventually goes away on its own.

Take a rest and try again next time. Missing part of one workout won't kill you.

Thanks for the help. I guess it's Blood Pressure spike after all. Missing one workout won't kill me but I just got pissed when I am changing myself hard to diet and workout properly and then stuffs like this happen. But this shows that I wasn't lifting hard enough in my previous workouts. Thanks again.
