When to work out? is late night an option?

Postby rwg on Thu Apr 21, 2011 7:12 pm

hello fellow hackers,

My life has been very busy lately and often i don't get the chance to work out before dinner.
i have always though it was good to work out some time before a bigger meal (like dinner)
my family normally has dinner around 6 ish. I was wondering how bad is it to work out at 8 - 9 ish

And is this even a problem?
now think of it i expect quite a lot of you might work out after dinner?

I can't think of any reason not to work out late. Just make sure it's not too soon after eating.

ok

yeah i was thinking maybe you'll end up with to little nutrition for recovery because you'll only have one smaller meal before bed time.
Or something along those lines.

but i guess thats not true then.

thanks for your reply.

I'd still have a recovery shake after no matter how late it was.

dsharp is correct - no real reason not to do it when you can do it, and definitely put away some protein after. Would suggest straight whey, or whey & casein if it's going to be the last of your nutrition for the day. The whole timing thing is overblown - the only demonstrated and researched metabolic advantage I am aware of is aerobic exercise in the morning while still fasting does induce ketosis, but really, so does a ketogenic diet like MANS or GLAD or TSPA. Way more important to get the workout in than to fret over when it gets done. ;)

In Tim Ferris's book he says ideal time is 8-10 hours after waking up.
I round it off and get to the gym by 30 minutes after waking up. . .
