The Zercher Squats was invented by Ed Zercher. The main reason for him coming up with this method was for people who can’t get access to a squat rack. The movement is quiet straight forward but complex the bar is taken as a Deadlift then while resting the bar on your on knees hook the crook of your elbows under the bar stand erect and start to squat finish movement as you started.
I feel the Zercher squat is much safer and more efficient taken from the rack instead of lifting from floor giving the back an easier ride. The Zercher squat can be pretty uncomfortable and even painful on the inner arms as the weight increases but the exercise is a great core builder in strength and mass also legs, you can do narrow or wide stance. The Zercher Squat is useful for people who suffer from back issues if taken from the rack.
Another option to make this even more efficient and less taxing is purchase a squat harnesses which there are a few on the market for doing Front and Zercher squats which takes out the hassle of holding the bar.
